Role of Endoscopic Surgery in Skull Base Tumour Treatment and Endoscopic Craniospatial Dissection
The introduction of endoscopic surgery in skull base tumours has provided improved access to brain tumors and allows the surgeon to remove or biopsy tumor in the operating field without the need for an open craniotomy. This mini-review will discuss the role of endoscopic craniospatial dissection in both benign and malignant lesions, how it can improve understanding of pathogenesis, treatment and prognosis.
Endoscopic surgery is performed with surgical instruments by inserting the endoscope into major anatomical thoroughfares of the head or neck. Endoscopic surgery helps in the removal of tumorous masses and other benign lesions from various portions of the internal organs using a very small device called endoscope. In addition, it helps in removing brain tumor also known as intracranial neoplasm by performing surgical excision through craniospatial dissection on its margins

Endoscopic surgery is the most common technique in skull base tumour treatment. It has been shown to be efficient in managing skull base tumours and can lead to rapid recovery after surgery.
In the majority of skull base tumours, endoscopic surgery is performed as essential treatment and relieves the symptoms of pain, nausea, vomiting and bone erosion accelerated by radiotherapy or chemotherapy. The preoperative planning of biopsy, surgery and postsurgical care plays an important role in posttreatment function and prognosis. Studies have shown that the degree of resection plays a pivotal role in distinguishing between benign and malignant tumors.
